Stump Grinding Geelong

A stump that's been left in place after a removal slowly turns into a problem. The wood holds moisture, attracts termites and pathogens, throws suckers from the root plate, and heaves nearby pavers or concrete as the roots die and shift. Grinding it out in one visit clears all of that. Around Geelong we use two machines depending on the access, a narrow walk-behind for tight Newtown and East Geelong gardens, and a tracked self-propelled grinder for the bigger jobs out around Lara, Leopold and the rural fringe.

Pricing comes off three things, the diameter of the stump at ground level, the species, and how far below grade you want the wood gone. Most Geelong customers ask for around 200 to 300mm under, which is enough for fresh turf, paving sand, or a shallow garden bed. If you're building a slab, putting in a new tree, or laying a footing over the spot, we can chase the roots deeper, usually 400 to 500mm, sometimes more.

Once the grinding is done you're left with a mix of fine chips, soil and root fibre in the hole. That fill will slump as the wood breaks down, so for anything you care about, lay turf, build over, or replant, we recommend pulling the chip out and backfilling with topsoil. We can do that as a line item or you can shovel it yourself. Either way the stump is gone and the area is ready to move on.
